We have discussed what hosting is and how to pick a good hosting company in our previous posts. Today let’s take a look at some of the different hosting options that exist and that are offered by Webline-Services. We will begin with the three main and most common solutions.
Shared Hosting is the most common (and usually the cheapest) web hosting option. The server is shared by multiple hosting accounts in one single hosting environment. Think of Shared Hosting as very similar to living in an Apartment Complex. All residents are in the same location and must share the available resources with everyone – such as the pool, parking lot, and play ground. In other words, all users share the same IP address and computing resources (hard disk space, RAM, network bandwidth, etc etc) from the same server.
In VPS Hosting, with proper server configuration, a server is divided into multiple virtual units. VPS hosting is similar to owning a Condo. While you still share things on the property, you are ultimately responsible for maintaining your own property and repairs inside the condo. There is also significantly less residents per building and assigned parking. Each unit acts as a virtual dedicated server; each virtual dedicated server is occupied by one user only.
As indicated by the name, a Dedicated Hosting user will rent the entire server for his/her own usage. Dedicated Hosting can be compared to owning a house. You are allowed and have access to all resources available on the machine. A Dedicated Hosting can be used for hosting one single website or it can be used for multiple websites – it all depends on the users’ preference. Dedicated Hosting is best for websites that need highest server performance, hosting security, and maximum control.
